Youth Sports Coach Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Sports Coach to lead and inspire our team of young athletes. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with youth, understands the fundamentals of team sports, and promotes a positive, inclusive, and skill-building environment.

As a Youth Sports Coach, you will plan and run practices, manage games, provide individualized feedback, and foster a culture of teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Coaching & Instruction

  • Coach youth teams in one or more sports (e.g., soccer, basketball, football, baseball, or volleyball).
  • Develop and lead practice plans that promote skill development, teamwork, and fun.
  • Teach the rules of the game, techniques, and strategies based on players’ age and skill level.
  • Provide individual coaching and feedback to improve athlete performance.
  • Foster an environment of respect, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

Team & Program Management

  • Organize and oversee game-day operations, including player lineups, warmups, and in-game decisions.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with parents and guardians about player development and team updates.
  • Maintain a safe and clean practice environment and ensure all equipment is used correctly.
  • Schedule and coordinate practices and games with league officials and other teams.
  • Support organizational goals and meet all city, league, and state compliance requirements.

Leadership & Development

  • Serve as a role model for young athletes, demonstrating integrity and positive behavior on and off the field.
  • Help recruit and mentor assistant coaches and volunteers.
  • Attend training sessions, coaching clinics, and professional development workshops.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all participant and organizational information.

Requirements and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience coaching youth sports or working in physical education.
  • Deep understanding of sport-specific techniques, game rules, and training drills.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to motivate, mentor, and engage youth through sports.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet local regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-sport coaching experience.
  • Experience in developing age-appropriate coaching plans.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
