Project Overview
The USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora activity is focused on strengthening Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services. The project aims to ensure sustainable access to high-quality, safe, and affordable health commodities.
A key part of this initiative is building the capacity of local systems and institutions and integrating private sector contributions to create resilient and efficient supply chains.
Position Summary
The Private Sector Data and Innovation Specialist will play a central role in enhancing the effectiveness of supply chain and pharmaceutical services by engaging private sector actors and implementing innovative digital solutions.
This role is responsible for improving data visibility, promoting private sector integration, and supporting the use of cutting-edge technologies to improve decision-making and service delivery.
This position supports the project’s strategic goals of building sustainable, locally led supply chain systems by leveraging private sector expertise and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Private Sector Engagement
- Establish partnerships with the private sector supply chain and pharmaceutical service providers.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration with the private sector to enhance supply chain performance.
- Conduct assessments of private sector supply chain practices to identify gaps and innovation opportunities.
Data Systems and Analytics
- Strengthen data collection and reporting mechanisms within private sector partners to support forecasting and decision-making.
- Support the integration of private sector data into national health information systems.
- Develop and manage dashboards, analytics platforms, and interoperability tools to monitor performance and improve supply chain operations.
Innovation and Digital Health
- Identify and support the implementation of innovative digital health solutions.
- Collaborate with digital health partners to ensure alignment with national policies and frameworks.
- Contribute to learning agendas, documenting and sharing private sector innovations in health supply chains.
Capacity Building and Sustainability
- Build capacity among private sector partners in data analytics, digital systems, and supply chain management.
- Promote best practices and facilitate knowledge sharing between private and public stakeholders.
- Encourage sustainable adoption and local ownership of digital tools and innovations.
Coordination and Reporting
- Collaborate with government institutions, USAID, and implementing partners to ensure aligned and coordinated efforts.
- Prepare timely reports, presentations, and case studies to highlight progress and impact.
- Participate in technical working groups, stakeholder forums, and other relevant meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, pharmacy, supply chain management, data science, information systems, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in private sector engagement, supply chain management, data systems, or digital health innovation.
- Strong experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and automation.
- Demonstrated experience working with private sector actors in healthcare, especially within supply chain or pharmaceutical services.
- Good understanding of data systems, analytics frameworks, and interoperability standards in health.
- Familiarity with the digital health ecosystem in Tanzania and experience managing innovation processes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English; proficiency in Kiswahili is an advantage.
- Previous experience with USAID or other donor-funded projects is preferred.
