Zoologist Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Zoologist to join our team. As a Zoologist, you will play a vital role in the research, care, and management of animal populations in both natural habitats and controlled environments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Animal Care & Research

  • Study animal behavior, anatomy, physiology, genetics, and ecology.
  • Observe animals in the wild, controlled environments, or rehabilitation centers.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of animal health, behavior, and demographics.
  • Collect and analyze biological samples for research and conservation efforts.
  • Identify and mitigate threats to wildlife, including habitat loss and disease.
  • Provide care for injured, orphaned, or sick animals.

Rodent Control & Management (as applicable)

  • Develop and implement comprehensive rodent control plans and SOPs.
  • Monitor and assess rodent activity, proofing efforts, and damage assessments.
  • Collaborate with pest control professionals to ensure humane and effective practices.
  • Manage and track rodent control budgets, bids, and reporting.

Education & Outreach

  • Assist in developing educational programs to raise awareness about biodiversity and conservation.
  • Provide public presentations or contribute to educational content as needed.

Collaboration & Administration

  • Work with veterinarians, researchers, and zookeepers to ensure optimal animal welfare.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members and interns.
  • Prepare research reports and participate in publication or grant writing processes.
  • Perform general administrative and operational duties related to animal research and care.

Requirements and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in animal care, wildlife research, or rehabilitation.
  • Strong observational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, behavior, and conservation practices.
  • Ability to work in varying environments, including field sites and laboratories.
  • Willingness to travel up to 35% of the time.
  • Experience with rodent control planning and documentation is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with wildlife rehabilitation or aquatic animals.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards in animal welfare and environmental conservation.
  • Training in emergency animal response or first aid.
